The first lesson in this series introduces your children to the designers William Morris, Jasper Conran, Cath Kidston and Emma Bridgewater, all of whom have designed some homewares your class will most likely recognise. They will think about the different designers’ styles and discuss the effect materials and colours have on a design.

In this lesson your class will be introduced to the shoe designers Jimmy Choo, Vivienne Westwood, Christian Louboutin and Dan Sullivan. While finding out about these designers, children will discuss some of their shoe designs. They will then have the opportunity to design some shoes of their own.

During the third lesson in this series, your class will be introduced to some hat designers and their creations. After exploring the work of Stephen Jones and Philip Treacy, they will look at different events hats are worn at and design a hat for a chosen event.

Now that your class are familiar with several designers, they will begin to explore clothing fashion designs. They will be introduced to a number of iconic designers including Mary Quant, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen. Your class will then be challenged to design an outfit for a particular event.

In this fifth and final lesson, your class will look at costumes designed for a variety of films (many of which your class will be familiar with) by Jany Temime, Adrian Adolph Greenberg, Joanna Johnston and Penny Rose. They will then go on to design a costume for a character of their choice, thinking about how they can portray their character through their designs.
